Alone with You in the Ether: A Love Story
by Olivie Blake
This book deserves a better review than the one I feel I am going to be able to put together. I can’t do it justice because, having just finished it, my brain is boggled and I am just in a trance.
Going into the book, I was sceptical of the writing style and thought “can I handle this? there’s a lot going on.” Picking up the audiobook was a huge help to me and created much more of a structure to the initial parts. Then, it all just grew and grew and grew on me, and I loved it.
Aldo and Regan are two beautifully complex yet individually relatable characters, and they come to life in this story particularly helped by the writing style. I feel like I’ve been inside their heads, which I can only describe as incredibly busy, and sometimes there’s an occasional earthquake, yet I felt safe there.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I just can’t get over how unique and beautiful this story is. Around 70% of the way through, I started leaning towards a 4 star rating. Now that I’m finished, I just can’t shake the feeling that I MUST give it 5.
