The Good House by Tananarive Due
2.0
1.5 stars rounded up. This had all of the details I love in a haunted house concept but it completely fell short for me. It was a chore to get through and I feel at least a quarter of it could be eliminated.
My biggest gripe with this book is how unrelatable any of the characters are. There is no backstory/explanation as to why all of the characters are so negative. I didn't understand why Corey thought of his mother in such a disrespectful manner nor did I understand why the ex-husband had such an intense amount of anger towards her. It could have also done without the weirdly flat love triangle that made me feel nothing. However, aside from my opinions on the personalities and relationships, the atmospheric elements were the best parts.
