Remarkably Bright Creatures
by Shelby Van Pelt
slow-paced
Okkkkk. I’m sorry. This book was so mid. I have no idea why it’s so hyped. The plot is very thin and for the first 60% AT LEAST I was so close to DNFing because nothing was keeping me going, but I thought “it MUST get better to be so popular.” And yeah, it does pick up in the last third somewhat but the juice still wasn’t worth the squeeze. I thought I was going to explode reading a book which is told in such a large portion by the most insufferable man-child to ever exist. Even his redemption arc was so bad, it was rushed, thin, and honestly barely even made him any better. It’s not that there was NOTHING enjoyable about this book, and it’s not the worst choice out there if you want a very slow, cozy story with a little magical realism, and I’m sure this book is for someone, but I just wanted more.
