4.5 dark and twisted stars
Eight years ago Alex lied. She put a man in prison for something he didn't do and now he is out...and he is out for payback.
Everything was taken from him; his friends, career, family, freedom, dignity and perhaps some of his sanity. For eight years Rafe failed to understand why he ended up in prison. He wanted answers, deserved answers and only one person had them and nothing was going to stop him from getting what he rightfully deserved.
That's just how things start off. Alex's lies are complicated and we don't find out the truth until later. While we can speculate, the true reasoning behind it comes from a dark and messed up world that Alex has been living for years. While on the outside things look perfect, on the inside they are anything but. Alex knows the devil intimately and her escape at the hands of her new captor. While she should be terrified that Rafe has taken her, she expected some sort of stand-off. She just hadn't bargained for the plans that he did have in mind.
This is not an easy read and dives right into some pretty dark subject matter. It was an addicting story and I felt like a junkie during the times I had to put it down. I was completely absorbed in their world. I needed to know more, I needed Alex to explain herself and I needed Rafe to get closure. While I should have been appalled at the lengths he went, I wasn't. Then came the ending which made me crazy because it was just one twist turning into another. So thank god I had book two on the ready.
