Obsession Falls
by Claire Kingsley
✨ small town romance
✨ grumpy x sunshine
✨ romantic suspense
✨ protective hero
✨ takes place in Tilikum right after the Bailey Brothers epilogue
When events in Audrey’s life cause her to return home she takes a job at a small newspaper in the town of Tilikum a place Josiah has lived his whole life and never plans to leave. When renovating the house next door to this sunshine girl and her dog Josiah can’t help but to be drawn to her. And when events happen to threaten Audrey’s safety Josiah decides she’s his to look after and help stop whoever is after Audrey before it’s too late.
This book was the first book in a new series by Claire and after loving her previous series the Miles Family and the Bailey Brothers I was so ready to read about the Havens from the other side of the feud. This book is a couple years after the events from Rewrite our story and can be read as a complete standalone.
I absolutely adored this book. I read it a week ago and I’m still thinking about them. Josiah was our broody character who has sworn off love. He spends his days renovating houses and avoiding his brothers nonsense. And Audrey is down on her luck and looking for a reset until she figures out her next step until she joins the town of Tilikum and falls for Josiah and decides this is where she was always meant to be.
I absolutely adore the grumpy sunshine dynamic, the romantic suspense was done so well I kept guessing until the very end. I love when the author leaves us obvious clues so we think we know where they’re taking us only to be completely blindsided by the real culprit. This story is one of my favorites with all the side characters and small town craziness. And Max the world’s most adorable dog and side character. I love that Josiah wants nothing to do with the dog to then buying him a dog bed to watch him work.
While this book is lower spice that you come to expect from Claire’s work I want you to go in knowing this book is worth the read. They’re worth the low spice because their love story captivates you from the very beginning. Spice does not define a book. This will be one of my favorite reads this year.
