"Do not, I beg of you, dampen today's sun with the showers of tomorrow."

It's rare I write a review these days, but I just had to write about this absolute treat of a story.

This book has a crazy amount of depth for something billed as a children's story - and it was so, so ahead of its time.

Let's start with the quote at the top of my review. This was said to Jack Pumpkinhead, who suffers from some serious health anxiety through the story, constantly worrying about his head spoiling. I honestly found him to be such a relatable and interesting character - and the quote I highlighted gave me such a boost in a time when I was struggling with a similar kind of anxiety myself.

This book also has some amazing feminist and female empowerment vibes - and it's from 1904? This author was a genius.

Aside from the above, the book is just super creative, imaginative, and fun.

I loved it from start to finish.
