To start with.... no dogs were harmed, that I can remember. This is very important when considering a book to read.
Beyond that, Year One was alright.
I've never read a dystopian fantasy before. Usually dystopian is more science fiction.
I will admit, that I did prefer the storyline of Fred, Arlys, Jonah, and Rachel over Max and Lana. So, I am a little disappointed that this series is following Lana and going down the Chosen One, magical child route.
What can you do though, it's a classic trope. Done to death, and likely to be done forever.
It ended well enough that I will consider adding the rest of the series to my list.
