Bonesmith by Nicki Pau Preto

adventurous dark funny lighthearted mysterious tense medium-paced

5.0

This book met and exceeded my expectations and I’m so glad for that, it was a fun ride!! The storytelling was phenomenal and consuming, a slow burn with minimal info-dump in the beginning but so well worth it!

The magical system is unique, I can see the similarities to Game of Thrones’ Whitewalkers but Bonesmith definitely stands on its own feet. The bonesmith magic (and the other smiths’ magics) are my favorite parts, the enemies-to-lovers subplot doesn’t hurt either!

Wren is really fleshed out as a complex protagonist, that opening trial outcome really puts the reader on her side. While most chapters are from Wren’s POV, we also get glimpses from Prince Leo and Julian to move the story along.

I loved all the little breadcrumbs sprinkled generously throughout the plot, putting the mystery together. Our characters become a bit of a found family with common goals and I cannot wait for the conclusion in Ghostsmith, I NEED MORE, truly a special book and it just makes me happy!
