I will say the first act was way too flowery for me. I understand that the narrator mostly saves that for when she's describing Edith, but it really was too much. It all got more bearable the further I got into the book and the author dropped the purple prose.  In such a short time, I was convinced of the relationship which a book 10x the length can't even get right. I don't really agree with what the narrator did, but I suppose that's a part of the narrative.
