The Sleeper and the Spindle
by Neil Gaiman
An enchanting retelling of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It shows that even a princess from a fairy tale doesn't need a man to save her.
The thing that I really liked about this book is that there were no male characters (except the dwarfs) but just women: a queen who goes on a quest to save her kingdom without a man to guide or help her, a princess that can be saved both by men and women (not just men like in every fairy tale) and a witch that doesn't want to share her power with anybody, male or female.
This is a tale that should be read to children, either boys and girls, because they should know that girls don't have to be damsel in distress but rather they can survive and win on their won.
