Villette
by Charlotte Brontë
3.5
This is my second Charlotte Brontë book, and her writing and characters (except for M. Paul Emmanuel) are still what I love the most about her work.
Although this book has its faults, I still got very attached to it. I wasn't fond of Lucy's relationship with M. Paul, but not even that made me want to stop reading. I personally preferred Dr. John, until he got married to an 18 year-old girl he'd known since she was 7...
Anyways, this would've been better if Lucy had told M. Paul to fuck off, but I'm glad I read the whole book. I love this quote from the last chapter: "M. Emanuel was away three years. Reader, they were the three happiest years of my life."
