This was an engaging read, but I had a hard time liking the characters for more than one chapter at a time because of constantly shifting actions and motivations. Also, I absolutely could have done without the romance subplot because it felt rushed and a bit flat. However, the world and story elements were fun and unique, and I definitely enjoyed this book enough to be interested in the sequel!
