A Little Magic by Lindsey Lanza
4.0
A Little Magic was such a sweet read! I instantly felt like I was in Sugar Valley and experiencing the holidays with these characters. I especially loved the line: " inhaling the air that I could've sworn smelled like frosting." Seriously. SO. PRECIOUS.
The book is told in past/present timelines - i enjoyed the past timelines so much more than the present day because the author portrayed the innocence and sweetness of Theo and Ellie as kids SO WELL and it all seemed very realistic. There were so many cute things, too! Snow globes, animal facts, pillow forts, etc.
Grief is featured and the way it was handled was another favorite part of the story for me. It's purely coincidental but I've read a lot of stories this year that happen to have a character going through grief and I too am experiencing grief so l've been learning a lot! I really want to take what the author did in this story and apply it to my situation.
Ellie also has Lupus and it plays a huge part in the story. Her mom is super overbearing and IMO was very believable! I loved seeing Ellie learn to fight and make a life for herself. I don't remember the last time I rooted for a character so hard!
I did have a hard time connecting with the characters in the present day though and Theo is not my favorite book boyfriend but I loved the magical element the snow storm brought them so they could reconnect!
Thank you Lindsey Lanza for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
