Delirium
by Lauren Oliver
What would it be like to live in a world where not only the word love was outlawed, but the actual emotion itself was? After all, falling in love often brings heartache, depression, anxiety, and even worse, could lead to war. I actually quite enjoyed this distopian love story, part the Giver part Romeo and Juliette, part thriller. Tension surrounding 17-year-old Lena's journey from conformist to rebel, innocent to love-sick, and her choices about staying or leaving her world. Not squeeky clean, but it's underlying message that "you have to experience unhappiness to know real happiness" and exploration of love is a worthy one.
