This is coming from someone who grew up watching the movie. Wow, a lot was not put in 😅😅 the main plot points were there(sort of) but the execution is very different.
The main thing being Ethan and Lena being able to talk telepathically. Something i wasn't expecting. (Brings to mind Thomas and Teresa from the maze runner)
They also deleted A LOT of characters for the movie. Like the sisters(the aunts), lenas other girl cousins, the football team entirely, Ethans mom's friend(I think she is in the movie but not NEARLY as important), lenas grandmother, and most importantly ETHANS DAD?!
It was interesting to be that ethans dad played a bigger part. Showing him more and more, then realizing he lost it after his wife had died, ethan finding out it was due to his mother's presence still being there and her spirit helping.
We also find our Macon is an incubus who feasts on dreams?! And Macon has a brother who feasts on blood?!
There was a lot of difference story wise overall that suprised me. But the most was Sarafine having a different outcome here. In the movie she dies, and doesn't have her own body. But in the book, she very much lives. Lena is both light and dark like the movie, but she didnt kill her mother. And her having a choice over her choosing was more complex than it was in the movie. If she went dark, everyone light in her family died. And if she went light, everyone dark died. Including Macon. Very interesting. Also Ethan died, which was f*cringe crazyðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Overall as a whole I felt the story was very good and flushed out. It felt like a small country town with small minded people, and 2 teens trying to find their way. While also falling in love. (Im glad it actually felt like they got to know eachother more in the book before dating. The movie was so quick) (I will say though, overall it did feel like a REALLY long book)
Also the budget on this audio book was so good?! We got background sounds, ambiance, and music?!! It was all very good and very impressive (espeicallythe voice acting)(Lena being voiced by a woman at the end gave me a jumpscare🤣🤣)
There's so many more books to the series than I ever thought. The movie was a stand alone. And it always felt incomplete. Now I know why. Im excited to see what happens next.
