About a year or two ago, I brought a copy of The Maid because the cover had me curious.

Little did i know when I started reading it that its a bit..how do I say..well, let me explain.

The dialogue comes off as if Molly is on the autism spectrum or even has social anxiety due to being solely raised by her grandma. But everyone's dialogue comes off as a bit odd, wether its because the author had set this in a high end hotel that requires specific interactions or because everyone's just that proper.

90 pages in and I'm not quite latching on.

The story blends present and flash backs together that I had to constantly re-read passages to tell where I am in the mindset of first person POV.

I feel like the author didnt do her research on police techniques or hotel policies, it feels like its constantly trying to be "Colombo" and only playing out what shows on TV rather than attempting to use factual elements.

The characters seem quite one dimensional and give limited opportunities to create a flowing narrative.
