The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell

5.0

As a lover of historical fiction, I do sometimes find myself tiring of the reinterpretations of well-known female figures through a modern lens, often to the contrary of established sources. (Reign on the CW, anyone?)

What I think helped this book be so successful is that it was about a real person who so little is known about that the author can use the elaborate frameworks and family histories to create something that is not quite possible to contradict.

I did enjoy the chapters being marked in locations, which made it easy to follow along with.
