When I finished the last page of this book, from my reading spot in full view of my family, I cried. Not because it was sad, but because I wasn't ready to not have these characters in my life anymore.

This series was truly wonderful. After -far- too long of slogging through Drizzt, Evans' style is refreshing and engaging, and I wish more D&D books were like this. All of the main characters are engaging, and at each POV change I was wanting desperately to continue their story- and the next, and the next, keeping me hooked throughout.

To the specifics:
This book had a lot to accomplish. The stakes were very high, and had me worrying how Evans could pull it off.
It was... Underwhelming. But only because there was so -much- set up. The constraints of writing within the Realms showed. The sideplots resulting from the edition change felt out of place, and nothing can happen in the main story to disrupt the realms -too- much when the fiction is canon.

As a result, it didn't quite feel like a proper ending to the series I love so much. If this hadn't been the last book, these things wouldn't have mattered as much- but it left me wanting so much more, keeping it from being five stars for me.

This book was still EXTREMELY enjoyable, and I recommend this series to everyone I know. I never see enough discussion of these books, they deserve to be as well known as Drizzt.
