Writing Clementine by Kate Gordon

3.0

I very much wanted to love this book. And there were aspects of it I really enjoyed. The setting of my own high school and home town was a novelty that I loved - being able to relate so intimately to descriptions of places. The plot - about Grade 9 Clementine who is 'unfriended' by her two popular, beautiful besties after a misunderstanding over a boy, and her struggles to 'fix' a brother suffering depression and a perfectionist sister on the verge of an eating disorder - was interesting. There was something that was just too much, though - perhaps the introduction of a steam punk group with elaborate costume parties. Why couldn't she just hang with the goths? I will definitely read more from this author, though.
