How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t: 14 Habits That Are Holding You Back from Happiness by Andrea Owen

2.0

The most informative parts of this book were the theory and psychology behind the 14 habits, and the most useful were the ‘Ask yourself the hard questions’ sections at the end of each chapter, which were easy to recognise as quite effective identification and ‘what can you do about it?’ tools. The rest was pretty fluffed up.

The whole text had a very colloquial style, which inherently has nothing wrong with it, but the author tended to repeat herself *a lot,* especially in the first third in both explanation and reference to the reader, and the editing wasn’t as thorough as one would hope (several typos, mostly missing words). The repetition definitely contributed to my boredom reading it. The advice wasn’t much to behold either, mostly to recognise the characteristics of the habits (“then you’re half way there”) and to correct yourself neutrally. I found the ‘hard questions,’ as I mentioned earlier, more effective than the chapters themselves, and would have loved if more insight behind potential answers was written in, or the logic of the questions themselves was explained further than the recognition components.
