The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer

5.0

Tell me why I cried no less than 5 times reading this book 😭

I don’t even have all the words I could say about this book but I’ll start with this:

I’m going to be honest, I was initially nervous the lines would get messy/ turn into grooming with the male author on an island & little kid concept (ex Michael Jackson & the Neverland Ranch, Willy Wonka, etc.), but it was shockingly wholesome & there were seemingly good boundaries drawn. (*Note: Sorry my job effects my ability to look at things normally 🤷🏼‍♀️)

This book covers so much trauma, loss, hardship & regrets.  Just like every book I love, the found family dynamic is beautifully woven throughout. As someone who grew up reading and found solice & companionship between the pages of every book I could get my hands on, this story healed a little part of me. Overall, this reads like a love letter to books for providing temporary homes to me and every other kid who needed an escape from hard life experiences 💛
