I think if I was a mother this book would have resonated with me a lot more, as it deals heavily with societal pressures on mothers to be not just perfect parents, but also the need to be beautiful, successful, and mentally healthy all the time.
The fierce love the mothers showed for their children was heartwarming to read, and made me appreciate my own mother even more. I especially loved the sisterhood that formed between the mothers!
The world the author imagines is quite exaggerated in its punishment of mothers who are deemed to be "not good," as well as the reasoning behind this qualification. However, I think in exaggerating this she really brought to the surface the ways in which mothers are punished in the actual world, because they are often unspoken and thus not widely thought about if you aren't experiencing it yourself.
I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending, and felt it was a vague way to end things, but overall I enjoyed this book and the pacing was great!
