Never been a huge fan of Julia Quinn's writing but UGH this is the worst of them that I have read so far.
And for all the time Eloise spent running her mouth and acting smart in the previous books in the series, she acts like a complete fool with no common sense in this one.
I'm glad Anthony points it out to her. But even after that, she acts stupid.
And Phillip . . . Ugh, where do I begin describing his unworthiness as a love interest? I suppose I could say he's temperamental, verbally abusive and often thinks about physically abusing those beneath him. I.e. his children and he's a neglectful father and a neglectful husband.
He's traumatized from his own abusive father throughout his childhood, I get it. But he doesn't put in any effort to change until the end after Eloise fucking runs away from him and after he finds out his children were already being abused by their nanny.
How is a loving relationship between these two incommunicable fools possible? A sensible reader sees that there isn't even any real chemistry between these two.
Give me a fucking break.
