I've never watched any of the films or shows inspired by this but it's almost impossible not to know the twist already. Going into it I didn't have many expectations, but I wasn't ready for how boring it was for a good 2/3s of the book. I literally fell asleep multiple times while trying to get through this short book 😅 I'd say it was more of a thriller and less of a horror novel, although I can see how the elements could have been horrific in the time it was originally published. It's short so it is worth a read and gives an interesting view into the understanding of gender, psychology, and occultism in the 50s/60s.
