Our House by Louise Candlish
3.0

Our House is yet another woman-in-dire-straits thriller: why do I keep reading these? In this case, I was ensnared by the unique nature of the the crime at the center of this novel: the house of our protagonist, Fiona, is stolen. Yes, her house is stolen.

Beyond the interesting premise, though, there is nothing particularly memorable or outstanding here. This is a very competently written novel--though the plot verges on the ridiculous in places and the character development, especially that of the villain, is thin. Still, it is entertaining, and even at 400 pages, it's a very quick and easy read. But it is not great. And I hated the ending. You have to read to the very final paragraphs to grasp the grave unpleasantness, but I was not at all happy; the ending left a very bad taste in my mouth.
