An excellent imagining of what the Darling children's experiences would be after returning from Neverland. Makes ample use of the source material while also delving deep into the Edwardian age through Wendy's stay in an asylum, Michael's service in WWI, and John's assumed rule as head of the family after the Darling parents died on the Titanic.

The delving into Neverland through adult eyes, with Peter as an antagonist, was full of texture and substance. The only missing character was Tinkerbell, which was never addressed or explained. I was fully expecting Peter to turn out to be fae, especially with some of the details of fae lore that governs Neverland here, which wasn't what happened. Perhaps there would've been space for Tinkerbell if he had been fae. But turning the Shadow into such a crucial element to Peter's villainy was excellent. The story doesn't lack for the removal of the fae elements, especially since it means we spend meaningful time with Tigerlily and another indigenous character, the author's own creation with Mary White Dog.

I loved these choices on the part of the author, as someone who deeply loves the original, and wouldn't change any of them.
