The Vacation by John Marrs
4.0
dark emotional sad tense fast-paced

Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

So this book wasn’t quite what I expected, but I ended up really enjoying it. It takes a minute to get acquainted with the full cast of characters, but it’s worth it to push through and keep going. Honestly more than a thriller or some big mystery this felt like a journey to figure out how the whole cast of characters were connected and an overall observation of the human psyche and the concept of good people who do bad things versus bad people who pretend they’re doing good things. The ending was way more emotional than I anticipated but I really enjoyed it and I think for so many different characters and story lines it wrapped up nicely. I would have loved to read a bit more about Savannah and how she ended up but overall this was a solid read.
