mousegoddess 's review for:
The Sabbides Secret Baby
by Jacqueline Baird
Okay, this was a book I would normally rate two stars. But I have to give props. There was one moment in particular that could have been beyond rapey. I was starting to cringe during the scene...when the hero basically stops and says he won't do more without consent. Dude. Wow. I was pleasantly surprised.
So, aside from that awesomeness, this book was okay. Pretty typical for the genre. Y'know
-emotionally distant hero
-naive heroine
-baseless accusations
then they injected a little tragedy just to mix things up and their solution to said tragedy is one I have not read before. Shocking, actually. I mean, the solution was not immediately apparent, but hey, I like being surprised.
okay, back to the tropes
-tragic misunderstandings
-deliberate lies and interference by conniving woman (not heroine, OBVIOUSLY)
-crazy random happenstance of a meeting! who woulda thunk!
slight interjection, liked that the heroine could feel possible attraction for another man. Liked that, atypical in stories withformer virgins who end up only ever sleeping with the hero for their entire lives
-REVELATIONS
-BITTERNESS
-sexual tension *waggles eyebrows*
-surrender!
-barriers re-erected!
-communication! gasp!
-saaaad, incomplete communication
-family interference! (the good kind)
-REVELATIONS
-and they lived happily ever after!!! :D
And that's basically the entire book ;)
