I'm one of the few people that seemed to really enjoy this book. I really liked cyra and akos! I suffer from chronic pain and so felt a good connection with cyra. I don't think Roth "romanticised" pain at all. I think it was actually rather spot on and had me close to tears at times when cyra was struggling. The twists and turns were fantastic and the characters were complex and interesting. The strange names did get a little confusing at times and sometimes the pacing was off and also I realise the issue of racism which is why this book didn't get 5 stars. overall it was a fantastic fantasy YA book.
