at long last, i have finally broken down and read 'memoirs of a geisha'... i think the strongest testament to this book's wonderfulness is the fact that i was able to pick it back up to continue reading after the short interim i took to read the new harry potter book. i usually fall into a short depression/bereavement period post-Potter and don't want to read anything, but this book drew me right back in. the story is just absolutely engrossing, and it is as ornately and delicately detailed as the world it paints for the read. simply a beautiful story.
