Teleosis: A Novel of Trauma and Transformation by Amy W. Vogel

3.0

Thanks to BOMM and the author for the copy. All opinions are my own.

"Teleosis: A Novel of Trauma and Transformation" by Amy W. Vogel promises an action-packed thrill ride centered around Inira Boehme, who was once on the verge of becoming the High Priestess and Supreme Ruler of Teleosis, a civilization dedicated to bringing hope and abundance to the rest of the world. However, her future is shattered, and she is forced to rebuild her life. Soon, a mysterious man tied to Inira's past offers to restore what she lost.

his is a nuanced story that is best savored. This has a contemporary setting in a world close to our own with notes of mystery-thriller, literary fiction, romance, and fantasy in a genre-blending story. The spiritual aspect and the exploration of the magic as something more spiritual and divine contribute to this novel's unique flavor. The focus on the benefits of therapy after trauma, acceptance, and growth, particularly for Inira, adds depth to the narrative. As someone in therapy, I really appreciated that. The world-building was also incredibly unique and interesting!

However, the love interests (male characters) being predominantly portrayed as predatory, with a transformation to their core belief systems through the influence of female characters, raised my hackles. This type of relationship and the darker romance elements might resonate with readers who enjoy this type of character.

The ending also seemed a bit rushed.

Super unique and multi-genre novel that is obviously such a personal book for the author. I am grateful to have read this book!
