Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny by Kate Manne is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early November.

A difficult read, to be sure, but more and more necessary in the case of recent cases about sexual harassment, assault, and rape - it clarifies misogyny as a debilitating process that is policed, enforced, upheld, rationalized, and justified, whether overtly or covertly, in order to subordinate women and uplift men as a dominant, privileged and entitled gender. There are several examples of crimes, works of fiction, and real court cases, such as Brock Turner and Elliot Rodger, as well as the logical option (to me, anyway) to react with and hold yourself to humanist principles of not being motivated by retribution, not reacting with hostility, and showing empathy and compassion toward a victim, regardless of their gender.
