The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie
4.0

high points:
- a second detective is on the case, whose role in the story is essentially to be intellectually dunked on by poirot at every turn
- hastings is present and dumber than ever
- the entertainment value and level of drama exceeded expectations; lots of twists and turns
- i finally guessed the ending ! for all of the wrong reasons, but still

low points:
- hastings obsesses over two (presumably) freshly 18-year-old girls; maybe they just look younger than they are but i fear that is wishful thinking. also given the way he describes them it’s creepy regardless.
- a small theory of poirot’s didnt end up fitting with the big picture, so he never elaborated on why it occurred to him. i guess he’s allowed to be wrong sometimes, but this was still a bit unsatisfying to me (at least tell me WHY he’s wrong).
- the ending was mostly satisfying to me (ie not entirely satisfying to me)
