Honestly, the premise intrigued me, and the fact it said “The Vampires of Dumas” on the cover was a big pro when I bought it. However… This was so weirdly fast and slow.
The aforementioned vampire isn’t introduced until 30 pages from the end. The climax was over and done with waaaaay too quickly and the information about the “world” was done in boring, annoying exposition.
I enjoyed Newman’s writing, I just think the execution was poor.
