The Curse of Saints by Kate Dramis
3.0

This book I first became aware of through tiktok what feels like nearly a year ago and I’ve patiently waited for it’s publishment through updates given by Dramis in her book progress emails.
This waiting was the only thing that prevented me from DNFing when I so so wanted to when I began reading it. Dramis throws exorbitant amounts of information at you in a way that had me questioning if there was actually a hidden first book somewhere that I was meant to read first because I was utterly lost and confused. Instead of weaving the magic system and verbiage in to the text in a way that flows but also informs, it instead info dumps on the reader.
It took till about 150 pages in for me to start getting interested in what was happening within the book (which is why I gave it 3-3.5 stars -also due to this being her first novel-). This is a book filled with ideas and prompts that I normally adore but the way it begins almost ruined it before that actual story truly began.
I am hopeful she learns from these writing mistakes and that the sequel will have a stronger, more confident voice - especially since she doesn’t have to info dump the magic system again.
