Everything the Light Touches
by Janice Pariat
Would recommend if you are looking for something idyllic with pretty description of nature here and there and don't mind the lack of a character or one plot. If you are a fan of nature/trees.

I wanted to like this book. The opening was interesting enough. Talks about a girl from Meghalaya who had been living in Delhi who moves back to home trying to find herself. I was invested in the girl's life and the people she meets and the description of the small village she is living in but then randomly the story changed. Now narrating a different character's story- now a female botanist who is travelling to India in search of a rare plant. I still kept reading hoping it will come full circle eventually. But before I could barely make any connection to this character. The story changed again. This time to a German diplomat/botanist/poet and that's when I stopped caring for the story entirely. It kept dragging on and I stopped. I tried to complete it and picked it up twice to give it a fair try but it didn't work for me. I felt the different narrations were not cohesive and the German guy's character and plot didn't work for me. The good bits- The descriptions of nature are lovely and the places where the author 's philosophy peaks through I thought I want to read more by this author. Female characters were good and interesting , wish the author would have done more with them. Or maybe they would come back later ( I stopped at chapter 10)
I have another book by the same author. Will pick that up next.
