Book Love: Developing Depth, Stamina, and Passion in Adolescent Readers by Penny Kittle

5.0

“A book isn’t rigorous if students aren’t reading it.”

Phenomenal! The suggestion in this book can be simplified: let all students every year read MOSTLY for pleasure, because they will choose good books if given the time to work up to it.

That’s a great suggestion and I plan to take it! My ingot issue with this book is that it repeated that in very similar phrasings in every chapter. I didn’t feel that each chapter was a new idea, or even very targeted. It felt a little meandering. Even still, it gets five stars because I can feel the author’s passion for her students and I know the idea will influence my teaching for years. I plan to read her book about teaching writing, as well!
