Twenty Fragments of a Ravenous Youth
by Xiaolu Guo
I adored this book. The narrator’s young voice was super compelling. That, combined with the intensity of the early 2000s Beijing setting, created a haunting feeling throughout that I could not get enough of.
The fragmented format also worked really well. So many emotions were conveyed without her using many emotive words. Obsessed.
Another one that won’t be for everyone but it was so fun to read so 5 stars from me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My new phrase: “as silent as two pieces of tofu”
