Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

5.0

I recognize this may not have been the conclusion most people were hoping for but I do like how this ends the trilogy. It reminds me of this quote from Strange the Dreamer:

“He looked him right in the eyes and saw a man who was great and good and human, who had done extraordinary things and terrible things and been broken and reassembled as a shell, only then to do the bravest thing of all: He had kept on living, though there are easier paths to take.”

That is what Mockingjay is about! It’s complicated, messy, and ugly, just like real revolutions. It’s about the torture of being a symbol. Despite being a key pillar of modern Young Adult literature, this series is more mature and nuanced than many, many adult books I’ve read.

I’m greatly enjoying my rewatches of the movies. Also love noticing the Black Sails parallels of Katniss as the Mockingjay and Long John Silver.
