11/22/63 by Stephen King
4.0

I haven't read that many Stephen King books so I only know him based on what people tell about him and on his novels and short stories that I have read (e.g., writes scary tales, suspenseful fictions, etc). So imagine my surprise when this novel turned out to be a romance story at its heart. And he wrote it so damn well.

While admittedly, I felt a bit confused because I was expecting for the assassination to be the main event (as foreshadowed by the title itself), I did appreciate King's sweet romantic story between George/Jake and Sadie. It was poignant and haunting and beautiful. And yes, I did cry at the end.

However, his retelling of the assassination and the events that lead up to it was not short of suspenseful. And it did become the main attraction. Particularly that last two chapters leading up to 11/22/63, I was really at the edge of my seat. And the character profiles he did for the real people (and the fictional ones) involved in the tragedy were all well-written.

The time-travel part was so reminiscent of Wells' The Time Machine (which I enjoyed reading so much), but it had its own rules and concepts that were brilliantly created and laid out by King.

In the end, this is quite an epic tale written by one of the best storytelling geniuses we have.
