The Palace of Eros by Caro De Robertis
3.75

3.75⭐️ Beautifully written to the point where sometimes it was too much. However, I loved that the author didn’t do the standard Persephone/Hades story. I’ve always like the myth of Eros and Psyche. Reimagining it as a wlw story was a stroke of genius. I liked the way the story occasionally broke to second person pov like she was talking directly to the reader. I also liked that this version of the story seems more historically accurate based on the time period (then and now) of patriarchy seeing Psyche and women in general as property. Something to be touched and owned but rarely taken care of.
If I had to sum this book up in 5 words or less it would be, “two bad bishes expressing nonconformity”. I loved that one of the main characters was on the trans/intersex spectrum and that psyche was portrayed as dark beauty. A lot of the conversations were kind of vague and maybe a bit too smart for me but I was MOSTLY able to keep up. The end felt a bit rushed to me in terms of Zeus just being okay with their lesbian wedding in Olympus. I wish there was some conversation there that I was able to be privy to. Also they gave such vague answers about how their marriage would be. Overall it was good with pockets of confusion.
