Among the Mad by Jacqueline Winspear

4.0

Aptly titled. Maisie deals with two mad people. One of them is her assistant’s wife who has had a nervous breakdown due to the the death of her daughter. Maisie intervenes to upgrade her care.

But the real threat is a mad veteran who threatens the government for not taking care of Great War veterans. Maisie is close by when another veteran blows himself up and is quickly hired by Scotland Yard to assist. Soon the threat of chemical weapons looms with demonstrations of dead dogs and birds. It keeps escalating. Maisie even gets to meet the Prime Minister. It’s a race against time and some surprising twists as military intelligence gets involved. But are they helping or hindering? Another solid caper that seems to wrap up early. But Maisie always ferrets out the truth.
