Irish Thoroughbred by Nora Roberts
1.0
I"m thinking ideas of romance and consent were dramatically difference in the 80s bc oh my god, this book had me cringing. I read this mainly because it was Roberts' FIRST, so I had to see where it all began. The nicest thing I can say is that her writing definitely got a LOT better.
Protagonist Dee repeatedly told Travis not to touch her, yelled at him, pushed him, and he laughed, compared her to a child, and then took what he wanted. That's not even considering the ideas of an employer sexually harassing a migrant worker who's never known a day of peace. There's tons of buildup and confusing behavior on both ends that ended so suddenly, I had to go back and make sure I didn't miss the end of the book. Read it for historical value, then go and find any one of her hundreds of other actual good books.
