The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

5.0

This book has me in a foetus position, rooting for the characters and crying at that ending. Nicola Yoon did it again. I had high expectations and they were fulfilled. The short chapters and conflict about a Jamaican girl being deported hooked me in and the whole love story had me fighting for them. The small chapters about side characters, little mentions of history and the mention of a Somali poet, had me covered in goosebumps. I am already a fan of Yoon's writing and POC cast but this book onky made me love her world more. This story about first love, immigration, identity, family, culture and racism has truly made me more aware and i found myself relating to the issues being faced by some characters. The idea of fate and being connected by something greater is comforting and while i choose to believe in it, there is nothing better than believing in dark matter. Or as Daniel says, love. ;)
