The Jean Freeman Gallery Does Not Exist by Christopher Howard

5.0

This book is fantastic: Howard not only reintroduces a neglected conceptual artist, but does so by considering his work within the broader context of late-1960s practices, particularly criticism of the art world by the younger generation of artists, critics, and historians working at the time. This is an impeccable example of art historical scholarship: thoughtful yet imminently readable and compelling.
