It’s ok. Like a medium range fanfiction.
I think it might give a sense of hopelessness/hopefulness(in a bad sense) to people experiencing depression, especially teenagers, where they would expect only someone with extraordinary powers like empath, Caleb in this story, understand them fully and accept the way they are. It could possibly make them turn down professional help, leading to serious and life endangering situations in the future.
Overall, not my favourite, as an influential YA novel.
