Speak: The Graphic Novel is a YA, graphic novel interpretation of the Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak
Things You'll Find:
*Discussion of sexual assault*
*Multiple metaphorical representations of trauma and the healing process*
Those who are familiar with Speak know the story and the summary; it's about a teenage girl who is assaulted at a party and afterwards calls the police, which effectively ends the party and turns her classmates and friends against her.
I remember this book being very popular when I was a teenager and the movie they made was released when I was in middle school. Ultimately, it's a hard book to read because of the content, but still a good read for those that choose to pick it up. I definitely like that it's now available in this graphic novel format; I found it much easier to digest, but still impactful. Overall, I'm hoping this trend of re-releasing classics or popular novels as graphic novels continues.
