Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner

5.0

This is the second book I have read in the "Over and Under" series and I have quickly become a fan of these books. The first line draws the reader in-- “Over the snow I glide. Into woods, frosted fresh and white. Over the snow, a flash of fur – a red squirrel disappears down a crack. “Where did he go?” 'Under the Snow,' Dad says". This book goes to describe the world that lies beyond the white, fluffy snow. This book explores the tunnels and caves beyond our view, where animals live in warmth during the winter. The language is descriptive of the beauty found in nature, with mesmerizing adjectives and a poetic rhythm. I will definitely be purchasing this series for my classroom.
