The Art Thief by Michael Finkel

3.0

I adore an art crime book - heists, forgery, you name it. And while this story of the world’s most prolific art thief racks up big totals, it’s more about the person himself than the crimes - both of which are surprisingly mundane! A guy steals 239 artworks in 6 years, worth over $1.4 billion; that should be twisty, riveting, dramatic. But it was quite easy, and the thief isn’t even very colorful. Maybe that’s the truly fascinating part of this story, but I prefer my art crime stories with the mystery of Isabelle Stewart Gardner or the flair of Thomas Crown.
