very glad i pushed on with this one. throughout the first quarter of the book, Roots, i was frustrated. i wanted to linger with these characters the author was creating. my frustration abated when i realized they would all become interconnected throughout the story. i don’t think it was done perfectly, and i don’t think 1/4 of the book should be close to putting me to sleep. both contributing to why this is not 5 stars. i loved the chapters on Patricia and she is by far the best character in this book. the through line of this story relating back to the trees made them seem like the gods they truly are. i really enjoyed the reverence and respect the author lent to them and was enthralled when the trees as a being were mentioned. overall, good story and i will probably revisit at some point in my life.
